Do I need to have any prior coffee experience to enroll in an SCA course?+
No prior experience is needed for our introductory courses. They are tailored for beginners and offer a solid foundation in coffee education. For advanced courses, however, some prerequisites may apply, which are outlined in the course descriptions.
Can I get SCA certified by taking courses at Tasse Coffee Roastery?+
Yes — Tasse Coffee Roastery is an SCA-certified training location, so when you complete one of our SCA courses on-site and pass its examination, you receive an official SCA certification that is recognized internationally across the specialty-coffee industry, at every level from beginner to working professional. Courses are designed to suit you whether you are starting out or certifying to upgrade your expertise.
What are the benefits of taking SCA courses at Tasse Coffee Roastery?+
By choosing Tasse Coffee Roastery for your SCA certification, you benefit from small class sizes, hands-on training, and direct feedback from industry experts. Our state-of-the-art facilities and the opportunity to learn in a real-world coffee roastery environment provide an immersive learning experience that goes beyond the classroom.
How long does each SCA course take to complete?+
Each SCA course at Tasse Coffee Roastery takes from one day to several days to complete, depending on the level and subject: introductory courses can be finished in a single day, while more advanced specialist modules typically run across two or more days. Please refer to the specific course details for exact durations.
Is there a practical component to the SCA courses?+
Yes, our SCA courses include both theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on training. This ensures that you not only understand coffee concepts but also can apply them in a practical setting.
Are there any online components to the SCA courses offered at Tasse Coffee Roastery?+
While our focus is on providing an immersive in-person experience, certain theoretical components may be available online. Please inquire about the specific course for details on any online materials or pre-course work.

What is the class size for SCA courses at Tasse Coffee Roastery?+
We keep our class sizes small to ensure personalized attention and ample hands-on experience. Class size is limited, so we recommend registering early to secure your spot.
What are the payment options for the SCA courses?+
We accept various payment methods, including credit card, bank transfer, and in some cases, payment plans. Please contact us for more information on making your payment.
Is there any discount for booking multiple SCA courses?+
We do offer discounts for students looking to enroll in multiple courses or groups registering together. Please reach out to us for specific discount information.
How do I register for an SCA course at Tasse Coffee Roastery?+
You can register for our SCA courses through our website or by contacting us directly. We'll guide you through the registration process and answer any questions you may have.
Where are the SCA courses held?+
All SCA courses at Tasse Coffee Roastery are taught in person at our working specialty-coffee roastery and cafe in Takadanobaba, Shinjuku, Tokyo, where you learn hands-on right beside the roaster, the cupping table and the espresso bar rather than in a classroom. There are no remote or other campus locations.
When are courses scheduled, and how do I book a date?+
Because every course is run privately — one-to-one or in a small group — we arrange the dates around you. After you reserve your place online (or contact us first), we confirm a schedule, level and teaching language that suit you. It keeps each course focused and flexible.
Should I confirm a course date before I place my order?+
We warmly recommend messaging us first, so we can confirm an available date together — along with the level and teaching language that suit you — before you place your order. Because every course is arranged privately around each student, if you order first and we're then unable to find a date that works for you, a refund may not be possible. It's wonderfully simple: just send us a quick message in the chat, and we'll settle on a date together before you book.
Who teaches the courses at Tasse Coffee Roastery?+
Your courses are taught by Wing Yuen, an SCA Authorized Trainer and coffee-competition sensory judge, with the Tasse team. You learn directly from a working roaster and trainer, not a lecturer in a classroom.
What SCA levels and certification can I work towards?+
At Tasse Coffee Roastery you can work towards the full SCA Coffee Skills Program — Introduction to Coffee plus five specialist modules (Barista Skills, Brewing, Green Coffee, Sensory Skills and Roasting), each offered at Foundation, Intermediate and Professional level — building points toward the internationally recognised SCA Coffee Skills Diploma. Every course earns points — Introduction 10, Foundation 5, Intermediate 10 and Professional 25 — and the Diploma is awarded once you reach 100 points.
What is the difference between the Experience Workshops and the SCA courses?+
Our Experience Workshops are relaxed, drop-in sessions — ideal for trying latte art, brewing or sensory tasting with no commitment. The SCA courses are structured, internationally certified training for anyone who wants a recognised qualification and a professional path in coffee. Many students begin with a workshop and continue into the SCA program.
